Welcome to the Quest222 blog! Quest222 is a parent/youth ministry of CrossWay Community Church - but you probably already knew that! We meet each month together for a time of fun, fellowship, worship, and teaching.
Most recently we’ve started a new teaching series called “TION”. T-I-O-N is the common suffix (brushing off my grammar skills here) for a group of important theological words that describe some amazing truths. Things like salvation, election, justification, sanctification, etc. Now, before your eyes glaze over in boredom, listen to this from Wayne Grudem “Knowing and understanding basic Christian beliefs is important for every Christian. People who don’t know what the Bible teaches will have no ability to distinguish truth from error, and they will be like “children tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine” (Eph 4:14). But Christians who have a solid foundation will be more mature, will not be easily led astray, will have better judgment, an will “have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil (Heb 5:14)” (Christian Beliefs, Zondervan, Grand Rapids, MI, 2005) I agree. In other words, unless we have something to keep us stable and on course, something to help us see danger and pitfalls, we are going to be blown and tossed around, and eventually end in danger – like these guys:
Nice. Of course that’s just a few guys in a boat. There’s more a stake here than some wet clothes. Understanding truth, and more importantly, applying truth in our lives will do more than keep us from falling out of a boat – it will keep our soul safe. It will give us the ability to distinguish truth from error, good from evil, wrong from right, so we won’t be easily led astray. Understanding and applying right doctrine will also help us to live a more Christ-like example. As we learn truth about God and his character revealed in scripture, we can better understand how to please him. Why would we want to please him? Because genuine Christians love God, and we will experience a growing passion and love for him as we learn more of him. And last but not least – understanding and applying biblical truth will give us a steady and unwavering confidence to share that truth with the world around us.
So that’s it! TION. We hope and pray that it will serve you! - John Morrison
